The Benefits of our Partial Hospitalization Programs
PHPs build on the work accomplished during initial substance use disorder treatment: After detox, they provide highly structured care that helps patients solidify their progress and build healthy habits for long-term wellness. And though they call for more effort than an Intensive Outpatient Program, they also let you keep living at home — and provide an insurance-friendly alternative to inpatient treatment.
As with any program at our San Diego outpatient treatment center, PHPs begin with an individual assessment, carried out by one of our in-house experts. After chatting with you about your goals and challenges, they’ll create a personalized care plan to give you the best chance of getting — and staying — sober.
Finding the Right
Partial Hospitalization Program
The average PHP incorporates 25-30 hours of treatment a week, spread out across several weeks. Among outpatient addiction and mental health treatments, they’re the most structured and take the most time — but at Apex Recovery, all that matters is helping you achieve sobriety.
Furthermore, PHPs are effective at treating a range of conditions, from prescription drug abuse to post-traumatic stress disorder. Explore the list below to see what conditions we treat. And remember: We’ll tweak your treatment as needed to maximize results.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
As an intermediate level of care, PHPs offer several types of therapies like medication management and group therapy, but at a lower intensity than inpatient care. Typically individuals in this type of program have already completed or do not require detox services. PHPs help patients achieve abstinence, establish coping strategies, and include community-focused therapy to improve their overall wellbeing.
PHP FAQs
If you do not require around-the-clock care, but still would benefit from an intensive treatment program, a PHP could be a good fit for you. Both PHPs and IOPs are considered a type of outpatient care, but PHPs have a higher level of care and are more structured than IOPs.
The length of time needed for each individual varies, but PHPs require a longer time commitment than IOPs. Usually around 20-30 hours a week and the full program could take several weeks or longer. Treatment is highly personal and we always recommend speaking to one of our rehab specialists to determine your recommended timeline.
PHPs are designed for individuals requiring a more demanding and supportive treatment approach. They provide patients with the necessary tools and strategies to form a healthy routine while addressing their mental health and substance use disorders.
